Tour Details

Meet your ancestors face-to-face. Were they short or tall? What did earth look like 200 million years ago?

This is one of the major tourist attractions in South Africa. It is one of eight World Heritage Sites in South Africa, and the only one in Gauteng and is renowned as the place where humankind originated. A world heritage site has to transcend national boundaries and be important to current and future generations for scientific, historic or cultural significance.

Discover the oldest most complete set of human fossils found on earth. Australopithecus afarensis dates back to over 2 million years ago and is the oldest human ancestor we have found that walked upright like modern man.

Join us on an interactive adventure through time in an international award-winning world-famous location that tells the story of Earth’s history and the earliest human experiences.

Explore the caves and the actual site where the world-famous “Little Foot” skeleton and “Mrs Ples” skull fossils were found on foot with an experienced cave guide.

A priceless tour worth every minute!

What to Expect

We will pick you up from your hotel accommodations and bring you to the area where the caves are. The tour is moderately physically demanding with some walking and quite a lot standing but there are breaks where you can sit and rest. Participants will need to be able to crouch down to get through a small space to be able to do the cave tour.

The museum part takes about 1.5 hours to 2 hours to appreciate all the interactive content. The cave tour is about 1 hour to 1.5 hours long depending on how busy it is because only a certain number of people are allowed underground at any one time.

Wear comfortable walking shoes with some good grip on the sole for the cave tour. Also bring a jersey as the temperature is much cooler underground.

Bring a camera and be prepared to learn a lot of interesting history. This tour is very educational for adults and children alike on earth’s history, geology, geography and mankind’s history.

At some point along the tour we will stop for a lunch break at the local restaurant.

At the end of the tour we will take a leisurely drive back to your accommodation.

Among the several tours See My Country Safaris has to offer the Prehistoric Human Fossils and Cave tour was both educational and fun.
It starts with a scenic ride out into the open countryside. You will get to experience the spaciousness of the land along with lovely mountainscapes in the distance.
When you reach the exhibit there is an interesting walk through a timeline of human development on this planet. There are multiple exhibits of excavated remains along with hands-on exhibits.
In the cave, I needed some help scooting along a narrow area and our guide was so helpful in getting us through.
This tour gave me an appreciation for the geography and history of South Africa.
If you have time I recommend you include a tour of the caves in the area too. (USA)
