Do These 5 Things to Ensure Great Safari Photographs

Going on safari to find wildlife is a life-changing experience. So you definitely want to make sure you are well prepared to take some fantastic photographs to share your amazing experience with your friends and family.

Top 5 Safari Photography Tips

1. A Real Camera: A cell phone is not necessarily the right thing for wildlife photography. Consider getting yourself a camera or even renting one.

2. Speed: The animals don’t stand still for long. So when you see it, you have to snap it fast. Make sure your camera is not too slow at focusing.

3. Ever Ready: When we go out we don’t know what will happen. We could spot an animal at any moment. So don’t have your camera, in its bag at the bottom of your rucksack so that you spend 10 minutes pulling it out while the animal goes behind a bush. Rather have it out, switched on and ready to just snap away.

4. Zoom capability: I cannot stress this enough. Many times animals are not right next to the road but twenty metres away. You need a camera with some degree of zoom capability otherwise you will only see blurry blotches on green and brown backgrounds.

5. Spare power and memory: There is hardly a more depressing moment than when you are about the take the perfect photograph of a magnificent animal that is looking right at you and your camera dies or it says you have run out of memory. Be prepared. You don’t want to miss out. Charge your camera the night before, bring spare batteries and make sure you download photos daily if possible to create space for new ones or bring a few extra memory cards.

“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” – Karl Lagerfeld
