Benny Sibisi

Cultural Guide and Soweto Expert

Biography

Benny fell in love with the tourism industry when he was a child when his next door neighbour, also being a tour guide, invited him along to help him pick up guests at the airport. He was enthralled by their questions and the conversations he heard.

After school he studied tourism at Gauteng South West College George Tabor.

His first foot in the tourism door was to work at a restaurant serving some local tourists then he moved to a retaurant at the popular Vilikazi street in Soweto which sees visitors from all over the world. He wanted more and decided to become a travel agent for Cleremont Tourism.

Once he saw the opportunity and what people wanted he decided he needed some practical experience to become a tour guide so he worked at the Nelson Mandela house and was apprenticed there. Now Benny conducts his own personalised tours of Soweto and he loves to introduce guests to the real community of Soweto.

His hobbies include watching movies, music, soccer and supporting his favourite team with his friends Orlando Pirates. Benny’s vision is to uplift his community by helping them find ways to start tourism related businesses that create memorable experiences for travellers from around the world.
